Already in the Baroque art epoch, the round pictures, the so-called tondi, were a very special picture format. Tondi were widely used in the interior decoration of buildings. The circular format was intended to emphasise the dignity and detachment of the subject, but also to enable the possible concentration on a pictorial theme and to intensify its effect. I also love this format for my abstract-baroque Neo Paintings because it particularly emphasises the reference to the Baroque art epoch.
